A Collection Of Stanley 39 Dado Planes
(C. 1902 - 1952)

From left to right; 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" in width versions of the planes. In addition to these sizes Stanley offered a 1/4", 13/16", 7/8" and 1" wide versions of this tool. The Stanley 47 was originally meant to be an adjustable dado plane able to do five widths of dadoes.

The blade is skewed and there is a spur to help cut across grain on each side of the tool. Both the skew cutter and the spurs make it a better tool for cutting across the grain than a traditional shoulder plane. This is another example of the range of specialty planes that Stanley offered at one time or another.
